The League of Gentlemen

On 11th January 1999, the very first episode of The League of Gentlemen aired on a little known channel called BBC Two and - without wanting to be too hyperbolic - comedy, television and the world was never the same again. Comprising of four eccentric talents - writer/performers Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, as well as writer Jeremy Dyson - The League of Gentlemen is set in the fictional town of Royston Vasey and the hugely influential series is credited with the revival of the sketch format as well as setting a new benchmark in dark, twisted comedy. It's so surreal, so grotesque, so bizarrely laugh-out-loud funny that you really won't want to leave. You can't anyway, so it's immaterial.
