John Challis actually started off as an estate agent before he decided to have a go at acting. It paid off, and he soon found himself in the Royal Shakespeare Company. One of his biggest regrets is the fact that a prior contract prevented him from appearing alongside the Beatles in their 60s TV film The Magical Mystery Tour, but he soon made up for it by starring in everything from Z Cars to The Sweeney to, er, Roland Rat: The Series.
