Greats At Eight focuses on a different classic comedy each week. Coming up this month we have The Vicar Of Dibley, Fawlty Towers and The Good Life but, right now, it's the turn of the late, great Victoria Wood's canteen-based sitcom, dinnerladies. Starring Wood herself, alongside Julie Walters, Thelma Barlow, Shobna Gulati, Maxine Peake and Anne Reid, it has all the classic, trademark Victoria Wood humour.
Monday 5th February at 8pm
In Monday, Jean frantically prepares for her daughter's wedding while Phillippa tries to lift morale. Next, in Royals, the ladies are very excited about an impending visit by the Duke of Danby.
Tuesday 6th February at 8pm
In Scandal, Petula embarrasses Bren by bringing her underage boyfriend to the cafeteria just as a filmmaker plans to make a visit. Then, in Moods, Phillippa makes an ill-advised attempt to lighten the poor morale at the cafeteria.
Wednesday 7th February at 8pm
In Party, the ladies prepare for the annual Christmas party, which has a Japanese theme, naturally. Everything goes well for Bren, until her mother arrives and gets stuck into the sake. Next, in Nightshift, morale plummets to its lowest point in the canteen with Tony in hospital and Dolly and Jean staging a walkout, leaving Bren to run the graveyard shift on the most important night of the year.
Thursday 8th February at 8pm
In Holidays, Bren is so excited about her forthcoming holiday with Tony she even considers buying some new clothes! Next, in Fog, the blood donor van turns up to encourage people to donate, which certainly doesn't help with Bren's fear of needles. Meanwhile, a convicted murderer uses the cover of fog to escape from Strangeways prison just a few miles away from the factory...
Friday 9th February at 8pm
In Gamble, everyone is desperate for Bren and Tony to get together, partly because they've made a bet on it! Finally, in Millennium, the crew prepares for the millennium dinner at the Old Brewery and it's a race against time to get things organised.
