Son Dermot is under pressure to spend Christmas with his new in-laws, the posh Nicholsons, and his mother-in-law Hilliary is doing her best to belittle Agnes's efforts to decorate the Brown family home. Dermot's dodgy mate Buster is having trouble delivering the the turkey. And to cap it all, there's no sign of any snow.

It's Christmas Eve, and the three couples have reached the Eurotunnel in Calais, returning from a long weekend visiting the Christmas markets in Cologne. Everyone is laden with gifts but disaster strikes when they realise they have read the departure times wrong on their tickets and have missed their train.
